Energy Conservation and Restoration Strategies

Energy Conservation Strategies
Patients who experience fatigue can identify high-energy activities (bathing, dressing, walking upstairs or downstairs) and tasks which contribute to their fatigue.

Ask for help. Delegate difficult, high-energy tasks to willing family or friends.

Use correct body positioning when lifting heavy objects.

Schedule tasks daily according to their importance; i.e., things you must do then things you should do that can wait until another time.

Change the way a tiring task is usually done.

Organize activities around high-energy days.

Plan tasks more efficiently so they can be easily accomplished.

Evaluate the need for aids (walkers, canes, adaptive devices).

Energy Restoration Strategies
Avoiding inactivity may maintain energy levels or increase your ability to do more of the necessary tasks.

Adopt a gentle, low-intensity exercise program (walking, stretching, etc.).

Balance rest with activity.
