Madeline Gittleman, Ph.D.

Dr. Gittleman is Attending Psychologist in the department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. She holds a doctoral degree in Clinical/School Psychology from Pace University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pain and palliative psychology at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian. Dr. Gittleman is an integrative psychotherapist who combines psychodynamic conceptualization of cases with empirically-based interventions. She utilizes breathing training, relaxation techniques, hypnosis and mindfulness-based meditation to assist patients in coping with emotional, physical and existential pain. Additionally she utilizes insight-oriented and cognitive behavioral approaches to help patients increase functionality and improve overall quality of life. As many patients with chronic conditions often struggle with sleep difficulties Dr. Gittleman utilizes CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy specifically designed to treat insomnia and other sleep difficulties). Throughout her work with patients, Dr. Gittleman develops trust and actively collaborates in the path toward wellness.
