Our journey began in 1998 with the mission to advance the educational aims of our two disciplines, pain medicine and palliative care. This website represents our third installment in the evolving process of designing Web space to meet the needs of an ever-increasing online audience of healthcare consumers and professionals seeking accurate, reliable information on treatment options.

Pain Medicine

Chronic pain can have devastating effects on person's quality of life. Pain management addresses the need for comfort, functional restoration, and treatment of associated problems. Our integrative pain medicine website, HealingChronicPain.org, informs on complementary treatments.

Palliative Care

Palliative care is a treatment model focused on caring for persons with all types of serious illnesses, including cancer; AIDS; advanced diseases of the heart, lungs, kidney and liver; and neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementia. Palliative care includes a broad range of treatments that together help the patient and family maintain a good quality of life and face the end of life with comfort ensured, values and decisions respected, and adequate support throughout the experience. Our website, HospiceNYC.org, address the special needs of loved ones facing the end of life.

Professional Education

We develop e-learning for clinicians in pain and symptom management. Our section, For Professionals, also contains information on fellowships and observerships within the Department, conferences, email discussion groups, and a grand rounds schedule for professionals to assist in their advancement and understanding of pain medicine and palliative care.

Caregivers

Family caregivers are never alone. Our site, Netofcare.org, supports caregivers and provides a New York City database of caregiver resources.
