Daniel B. Carr, MD, DABPM, FFPMANZCA
(Hon), is Saltonstall Professor of Pain Research, Vice Chairman for Research,
and Medical Director, Pain Management Program, in the Department of Anesthesia
at New England Medical Center and Professor of Anesthesiology and Medicine at
Tufts University School of Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Carr received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Columbia University in New York, New York. He trained in internal
medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and later
at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he continued his training
in internal medicine, endocrinology, and anesthesiology. Dr. Carr is a
diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the Endocrinology
and Metabolism Subspecialty Board, and the American Board of Anesthesiology,
and he holds a certificate of added qualifications in pain management
from the American Board of Anesthesiology. He also is a fellow of the
American Board of Pain Medicine. |

An editorial board member for several pain-related journals, Dr Carr is editor-in-chief
of Pain: Clinical Updates, which is published by the International Association
for the Study of Pain. He has authored or coauthored more than 250 publications,
several of which were commissioned by the Agency for Health Care Policy and
Research.
Dr. Carr’s research interests include endogenous opioids; analgesic
peptides and nociception; and systematic reviews of pain therapies.
